Real Housewife of New Jersey, Caroline Manzo, is very good friends with Bernie Kerik, the police commissioner who was nominated as Secretary of Homeland Security before he ended up in jail. Something that the reality star says has not changed!
“He has remained one of our best friends. He’s still in jail, he’s coming out in May and I stand behind him 1000%,” Caroline tells Naughty But Nice Rob. “I haven’t seen him in a couple of years because our schedule hasn’t allowed it, but his wife is my best friend and I see his children all the time and I stand behind him.”
In 2006, Kerik pleaded guilty to two unrelated ethics violations and was ordered to pay $221,000.
A grand jury of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a 16-count indictment against Kerik on November 8, 2007, alleging conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud, and lying to the Internal Revenue Service. Kerik surrendered to authorities and pled not guilty to all charges.
On November 5, 2009, he pleaded guilty to 8 charges in a plea bargain with prosecutors. Kerik was sentenced to four years in federal prison on February 18, 2010.
