19 Kids and Counting (formerly 17 Kids and Counting then 18 Kids and Counting) shows life with the Duggar family, which consists of parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and their 19 children—nine girls and ten boys (including two sets of fraternal twins)
The deeply religious family tells Naughty But Nice Rob that it is God that keeps them all connected, and when they gets lost it is God that puts them back on the right track.
“I used to have a lot more moments when I would get upset and angry. I want to a conference a few years ago and a father got up and spoke about anger, which is a topic not many people talk about. He said one day he daughter came up to him and said ‘dad would you please pray about your anger problem,’ and he said, it really got him. He asked God to forgive him and help him. Then he went a step further and said ;would you please help me. If you see me raising my voice, talking with sharp words, I am going to give you permission to come up and whisper in my ear and say, Daddy, I think you are being angry.”
Jim Bob said he came away from the conference and did the same thing – he asked his family to tell him when he isn’t behaving the way he would like too.
“The accountability with me is spread throughout the whole family. We challenge each other but the importance is not to do it in a public setting but to do it in private,” says Jim Bob. “That’s the word of Jesus, talk to someone in private and then if they don’t receive you, bring someone else. Children should encourage their parents to pray.”
