Kourtney Kardashian opened up about her recent hospital stay for the first time in an emotional new post, and our hearts are breaking for her.
The pregnant mom-of-three is currently pregnant with her first baby with husband Travis Barker. She shares a black-and-white photo of the couple holding hands in the hospital. Kardashian is wearing a hospital bracelet with an IV in her wrist, and you can see her bare baby bump with a band-aid in the photo. In her post, she revealed that she had to have “urgent fetal surgery.
“I will be forever grateful to my incredible doctors for saving our babies [sic] life,” she wrote on Instagram. “I am eternally grateful to my husband who rushed to my side from tour to be with me in the hospital and take care of me afterwards, my rock. And to my mom, thank you for holding my hand through this.”
She went on, “As someone who has had three really easy pregnancies in the past, I wasn’t prepared for the fear of rushing into urgent fetal surgery. I don’t think anyone who hasn’t been through a similar situation can begin to understand that feeling of fear.”
“I have a whole new understanding and respect for the mamas who have had to fight for their babies while pregnant,” she said. The Lemme founder also thanked God in the post and shared that she felt blessed to be able to leave the hospital “with my baby boy in my tummy and safe.”
On Friday, Barker rushed home to be with Kardashian. Blink-182 issued a statement to explain: “Due to an urgent family matter, Travis has had to return home to the States. The Glasgow, Belfast, and Dublin shows are being postponed. More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available.”
A source later told PEOPLE that Kardashian had a short stay in the hospital and was recovering home with her kids, Mason 13, Penelope, 11, and Reign, 8, who she shares with ex Scott Disick. (Barker is dad to Atiana De La Hoya, 24, Landon, 19, and Alabama, 17, with ex-wife Shanna Moakler.)
“She is feeling better. She is happy to have Travis back home too,” the insider added.
Kardashian didn’t reveal why she had urgent fetal surgery. According to the Mayo Clinic, this is a procedure done on a fetus in the uterus “to help improve the long-term outcome of children with specific birth defects.” Fetal surgery could be done for many reasons, and the risks include rupture of the uterus, fetal death, early labor, and more. That is such a scary thing to go through, but luckily, everything seemed to work out OK for Kardashian and Barker’s baby.
After this scare, we hope the remainder of her pregnancy is calm — and that her labor and delivery goes smoothly!
