“Addiction is an illness that is on the rise in our country. It is something that many people struggle with on their own and without proper support,” said Tera Hanks, President of Westbrook Inc. “Our hope with this podcast is to reduce the stigma and raise awareness about the true challenges surrounding addiction while also serving as a resource for those living with, or know someone living with, addiction and help them on their journey towards recovery.”
AMERICA RECOVERS uplifts listeners with stories of transformation from crisis to clarity featuring real-life interventions, real-life recoveries and real-life newsmakers like Billy Porter, Carnie Wilson, Stephen Baldwin and more.
“We are at an unprecedented moment when America will have to collectively recover from the disruption of the COVID pandemic which caused mass grief and suffering, job loss and debt accumulation, resulting in mental health challenges and an increased addiction crisis. This moment warrants shining full sunlight on these real life issues from thought leaders like Brad and Mack,” said Executive Producer Scott Sanders.
In the midst of a global trauma event that is COVID-19, families are impacted like never before by alcohol and drugs, eating struggles, gaming and gambling, pornography addiction, and various other harmul coping mechanisms. None of these solutions are sustainable over time and people need a field guide to help them map out their journey back to optimum mental and physical health. During this moment of planet-wide suffering, alcohol and drug consumption alone is up by 500% in many cities and the increase in anxiety and depression is almost immeasurable.
AMERICA RECOVERS works to help equip our community with tools, tips and triumphant stories highlighting how to break defeating cycles each week. From their frontline position, Brad and Mack have their fingers on the pulse of what hurts, what helps, and how to change yourself or someone you love.
“Listeners will get real tools with proven clinical success, to help themselves or someone they love. Each one of us has an interventionist inside of them. I’ll tell listeners how to access it,” said AMERICA RECOVERS host and creator Brad Lamm. As a Certified Intervention Professional, Brad has held over a thousand interventions with families, authored many books on self improvement and appeared as an expert or conducted interventions on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Dr. Oz Show helping America recover precious parts they’ve lost since 2005.
“My active addictions unfolded in a fishbowl for the whole world to watch in real time, so I decided to share my recovery story as well in the hopes of inspiring others who identify, which lead to my interest to work in the treatment field with individuals suffering with similar challenges,” said co-host Mackenzie Phillips.
Also contributing is Licensed Professional Counselor Anisha Cooper. As AMERICA RECOVERS resident therapist. Cooper offers insight and wisdom for listeners from her perspective as an LGBTQ+ advocate of color. Recovery-focused Private Investigator Joe Regan is America Recovers resident “finder”.
AMERICA RECOVERS drops new episodes every Tuesdays through Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeart Radio & Spotify.
