Truly feels like it’s been 84 years since King Charles’ coronation—an endless and exceedingly fancy event that involved him complaining at length in a golden carriage—but the time has to circle back. Specifically to Prince Harry being completely blocked by the giant red feather on Princess Anne’s hat.
As you may recall, there was a LOT of seating drama at the coronation: at first there were claims that Harry was refusing to RSVP until he knew exactly where he’d be sitting, and then there were claims that he’d be sitting “several rows behind” senior royals to make sure “there can be no direct shot of William and Harry together.”
In the end, Harry ended up sitting in the third row—directly in front of Princess Anne, who was wearing the world’s largest red feather in her hat that completely blocked Harry’s face from view of the cameras. And if you’re curious what the royal family thought of this moment, The Times spoke to an insider who said the hat prompted “much hilarity among the family about where the plume ended up and what it ended up obscuring.”
Prince Harry and Princess Anne actually had a chance to briefly chat at the coronation, and Harry seemed happy to see her—despite ongoing tension in the royal family. According to lip readers on behalf of the Daily Mail, Anne asked Harry if he was okay with his seat in the third row, and if he’d be able to see around her feathered cap. He then told her “I don’t mind. Sit at the front!”
