Tom Cruise missed Oscars to avoid seeing ex Nicole Kidman in person: report
Tom Cruise allegedly feels the need, the need — to stay far away from his ex-wife, Nicole Kidman.
The 60-year-old “Top Gun: Maverick” actor was noticeably absent from the 2023 Oscars on Sunday, despite the movie being nominated for six awards.
He reportedly was MIA because he wanted to avoid an “awkward run-in” with Kidman, 55, whom he divorced more than 20 years ago.
“Tom was not there because she was there, and he did not want a run-in,” a source reportedly told the Daily Mail on Monday.
But insiders close to Cruise allegedly told the outlet that his absence was “not personal” and instead the result of scheduling issues.
The prolific duo married on Dec. 24, 1990, and adopted two children — Isabella, now 29, and Connor, now 27, who are both reportedly members of the Church of Scientology, like their dad, Cruise.
Cruise filed for divorce in February 2001, citing “irreconcilable difference” after allegedly walking out on Kidman that same year.
The move left the “Big Little Lies” actress in utter “shock” as fans suspected that the marriage came to an end due to her refusal to become a Scientologist.
“She knows why, and I know why, [we divorced]” Cruise told Vanity Fair in 2013, vowing to keep the reasoning private. “She’s the mother of my children, and I wish her well. And I think that you just move on.
“And I don’t say that lightly. I don’t say that with anything,” he continued. “Things happen in life, and you do everything you can, and in every possible way, and there’s a point at which you just sometimes have to face the brutal reality.”
