Montel Williams Held Temporarily at German Airport for Marijuana Possession
Montel Williams was held briefly at the airport in Frankfurt, Germany, after a small amount of marijuana was found in his possession.
It was quickly verified that Williams had a medical prescription for marijuana to treat multiple sclerosis, and the former talk show host was released.
A statement was shared on Williams’ rep, Jon Franks’ Facebook page, saying, “This morning while traveling through the Frankfurt Airport, Montel was briefly held in German customs while they verified the validity of one of his MS prescriptions. Once it was verified, he was promptly released.”
Franks told Page Six that Williams was treated well throughout the incident. “He has asked that we relay to the German government, via their embassy, his appreciation and gratitude for the respect with which he was treated by German officials.”
Williams has been an advocate for more sensible medical marijuana policies to be put into place around the world.
“Unfortunately this is the reality faced by medical marijuana patients every day all over the world,” the Facebook statement continued. “Today, Montel reaffirms his commitment to fighting for sensible medical marijuana policies across the world and to fighting the stigma he and so many other seriously ill Americans face every day for simply following the advice of their doctor — in Montel’s case a world class Multiple Sclerosis specialist.”
