Ariana Grande’s new hit song ‘7 Rings,’ is a monster hit making the estates of Broadway’s legendary writing team, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, millions of dollars. Ariana’s song is based on the classic song “My Favorite Things” from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s epic musical, “The Sound of Music.”
“The song has a total of 10 writers credited. However, all 10 songwriters are not splitting the money from the monster hit equally, with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II getting 90 percent of the royalties,” sources tell STRAIGHT SHUTER. “In order for Ariana to sample a song that the theater legends wrote, their estates demanded 90 percent of the song. It was non-negotiable. She had an easy choice, pay up or don’t use it! The estates for those two guys do not mess around when it comes to money. Meanwhile, Ms. Grande and her other seven co-writers will each get just a fraction of what R and H get!” BOOM
