Frozen on Broadway was supposed to be Disney’s new Lion King, a monster hit that would keep the cash rolling in for decades as theatre audiences delighted in the show around the world. However, that hasn’t been the case and now the troubled Broadway show looks like it might actually close early if the new movie, ‘Frozen 2,’ doesn’t give the stage show a boost.
“Frozen on Broadway is a very expensive show to produce each week and with the weekly grosses dropping to the $800,000s, the show could be losing money,” Broadway insiders tell STRAIGHT SHUTER. “This is a disaster for Disney Theatrical. The movie of Frozen made $1.27 billion and is the second highest grossing animated film of all time. Yet, despite that the musical version on stage is playing 66% of potential gross. Just to put that into perspective Disney’s other Broadway shows did $1,125,745 last week, while The Lion King grossed $1,833,703, and it has been running for over 20 years!”
Frozen is in big trouble and with those numbers Disney is going to have to, ‘Let It Go!’
