Mariah Carey Reality Show Already In Trouble: DIVA DEMANDS APPROVAL
Ms. Carey will be the star of a new eight-part documentary series, “Mariah’s World,” which will follow her as she goes on a tour in Europe and South Africa that began on Tuesday, and plans her wedding to her billionaire fiancé, which is to take place this spring. (No date has been set yet.)
But whatever you do, don’t use the R-word when discussing the series with Ms. Carey.
”I refuse to call it a reality show,” she said. The series, she said, is all about getting to know her better and not, as she put it, “Here I am, getting my nails done.”
Sounds great, but after just two weeks of filming the show is already in trouble.
“Mariah is demanding editorial control. She is very particular about her image and controls everything from her lighting to the side of her face she wants shot. She is treating filming like a Spielberg movie, not a cheap cable reality show,” sources tell NAUGHTY GOSSIP. “This is going to be a bigger disaster than Lindsay Lohan’s show on Oprah’s network. She hasn’t been on time once, an keeps the crew waiting for hours.”
The series (each episode will be an hour long) is expected to debut later this year, possibly by late summer.
Mariah is not trying to hide that fact that she has veto power over material she doesn’t want filmed or broadcast. (Producers for the show suggested that it would be a collaboration.) And some things are strictly off limits: her 4-year-old twins, and her billionaire fiancé, the Australian James Packer, does not want to be filmed.
The show is being produced by the same group behind “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” and “I Am Cait”
“She thinks she’s filming a documentary not a soap opera. They will also break the fourth wall and blend her production crew into the television show,” another sources tells NAUGHTY GOSSIP. “She finds it very difficult to pretend the cameras are NOT with her, so they have become part of the show. She barks orders at them the entire time they are filming.”
In 2002 Ms. Carey showed off her TriBeCa penthouse in the MTV show “Cribs” where her antics were on full display, including when she showed off a walk-in lingerie closet and dropped into a bathtub wearing little more than a towel.
She cannot speak the day before a performance. She knows exactly what she wants but she has to communicate through writing or sign language, and it’s a sort of a joke within her group, because she has to preserve her voice.
In Leeds UK last Thursday evening, she was booed by concert-goers after arriving 45 minutes late for her performance.
Fan also saw the diva being carried around like a musical queen on a velvet bed during the show.
