Drag legend RuPaul Charles has just landed a ‘test’ daytime TV talk show, with his eye on replacing troubled host, Wendy Williams. RuPaul eagerly-anticipated show will initially run for a three-week test period on Fox.
“Fox is very worried about what is going to happen with the Wendy Williams show. Ru’s show is being considered as a safety net in case everything falls apart with Wendy,” sources tell STRAIGHT SHUTER. “Ru and Wendy both have a similar audience and attract the same demographic. If everything goes great with Ru’s ‘test’ shows, then the network has a real option about replacing Wendy. Ru is in this to win it and knows that success on TV often comes when someone else f**ks it up. Plus, hiring long-time producer of the Oprah Winfrey Show, Jill Van Lokeren, doesn’t hurt!
It has been over 20 years since his last talk show, The RuPaul Show, which first aired in 1996 on VH1. It made Charles the first ever openly gay TV host in the US.
