Georgia Macy, the younger daughter of Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy, says she is heading to Vassar College next year — or at least her Instagram does. The news, reflected in her updated “Vassar 2024” bio, comes one month after her mother completed her prison sentence for her role in the college admissions scandal.
On top of updating her profile, the 17-year-old also posted a story on her Instagram with Vassar’s logo. Yahoo Entertainment has not yet been able to verify that Macy will be attending Vassar, but will update this story if that changes. However, according to the school’s website, the first round of early decision applicants are expected to hear if they are accepted in mid-December.
A liberal arts school located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Vassar is just two hours north of New York City. The school has a well-regarded drama program, which boasts Meryl Streep as an alum, though it’s unclear what Georgia plans to study. Her father, of Shameless fame, told Parade earlier this year that the teen was “interested in politics, political science and [is] pursuing that.”
Huffman was among the more than 50 people — including Fuller House actress Lori Loughlin — charged in the investigation, nicknamed Operation Varsity Blues by federal prosecutors. She pleaded guilty, admitting to paying disgraced college admissions consultant Rick Singer $15,000 to have a proctor improve her elder daughter Sophia Macy’s SAT scores. According to documents in the investigation, Huffman considered running the scam a second time for Georgia but changed her mind.
Neither Sophia, 19, nor Georgia was aware of what Huffman was orchestrating with Singer, prosecutors said.
Sophia, who was more of the focus of media attention amid the scandal, was finalizing her own college selection when her mother was arrested in March. Her father said in his letter to the judge in Huffman’s case that an opportunity the aspiring actress was given to audition at a college was rescinded amid the scandal. Devastated, she opted to take a gap year. Sophia has yet to announce where she plans to attend school next year.
Huffman completed her 11-day prison sentence in late October. She has one year of supervised release and 250 hours of community service. She and Georgia were spotted volunteering together in September.
William also told the judge in his letter that their family has been working through the scandal with a therapist. “After her arrest Felicity found a wonderful family therapist and we’ve all been going (in various combinations) for the last few months,” he wrote. “There is much to be done, and some of the hurt and anger will take years to work through, but we are making progress.”
