Texas Teacher Impregnated by 13-Year-Old Student She Had Sex With ‘on Almost Daily Basis’
A former Texas middle school teacher who police say admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old student “on almost a daily basis” and became pregnant with his child has pleaded guilty to charges, KTRK reported Wednesday.
Alexandria Vera, 24, entered a guilty plea to a count of aggravated sexual assault of a child, the station reported.
By pleading guilty, she lowered her possible sentence from a maximum of 25 years to five years, and could potentially be released on probation, according to KTRK. The sentencing is expected to happen next January.
Vera, an eighth grade English teacher at Houston’s Stovall Middle School at the time of the alleged crime, surrendered to authorities in May after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She faced a felony charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child, KTLA sister station KIAH in Houston reported.
According to court documents, Vera met the student during summer school in 2015.
By September, they had exchanged phone numbers and the student asked Vera if they could hang out. She went to the boy’s house and picked him up, and they drove around and kissed, the documents stated.
The following day, the teacher went back to his home and they had sex while the teen’s parents were out, KIAH reported.
Vera was later introduced to the boy’s parents as his girlfriend. They allegedly “accepted their relationship,” even inviting her to family gatherings, according to the documents.
The teacher became pregnant in January 2016, court records showed. She told the teen’s family, and they were said to be “supportive and excited” about the expected baby.
Vera said she had an abortion after Texas Child Protective Services officials unexpectedly showed up at the school in February to question her about the relationship. She denied any wrongdoing at the time, but police said they found evidence of the relationship on her cellphone.
She was removed from the school when the allegation was made in April and placed on administrative leave, according to the Aldine Independent School District Police Department.
