There’s no denying identity theft and fraud are huge problems in the United States. Americans are becoming more concerned about protecting their personal data after businesses, such as WhatsApp, Quest Diagnostics, Target, Capital One and others, have experienced huge breaches this past year.
WalletHub set out to discover which states are the most and least vulnerable to identity theft and fraud. According to their study, residents of Washington D.C. were the most vulnerable in 2019. To determine where Americans are most susceptible to such crimes, WalletHub compared the 50 states, as well as D.C., across 15 key metrics. The data set ranges from identity-theft complaints per capita to average loss amount due to fraud. Here are their findings:
