Rolling stone magazine is getting blasted for giving the ‘rock star’ treatment to accused Boston bomber, who’s name we are not even going to print!
But blurring the line between fame and infamy, the magazine could be facing a huge backlash as real rock stars think twice about gracing the once iconic cover in the future.
“If you want to become famous, kill somebody is the message they are sending. This was once the magazine that stars had to beg to be on. Every musician wanted the cover of Rolling Stone. It gave them credibility. It made them insiders, cool and relevant. Now it’s a joke,” one disgusted A-List publicist tells NAUGHTY BUT NICE ROB.
The issue, which hits newsstands Friday, features interviews from childhood friends, teachers and law enforcement agents. It claims to reveal how a “popular, promising student fell into radical Islam, and became a monster.”
“Recent covers featured Johnny Depp Rihanna and Justin Bieber, do you think anyone is going to want to follow this monster,” adds another music insider. “It is so short-sighted. They will get a lot of press for the magazine this week, but the damage they have done in the long run is huge!”
The Rolling Stone cover quickly drew a negative reaction on social media, as “Boycott Rolling Stone” quickly became a trending Twitter topic in Boston.
UPDATED: Rolling Stone PR is canceling interview with writer of the cover story. Yesterday the author was booked on MSNBC tonight, the magazine pulled the interview!
