American Idol has hit record low ratings causing many TV insiders to believe that this could be the last season of the once monster TV show.
“Everything comes to an end and it’s usually over money. This show is very expensive to produce and once it stops making a profit it will get cancelled,” one TV veteran tells Naughty But Nice Rob. “American Idol grew out of the British TV show ‘Pop Idol,’ just like its American sister show, was once a monster ratings success before getting put on an indefinite hiatus. And “Idol” judge Simon Cowell announced the launch of the The X Factor in the UK in April 2004.”
Idol has gone on to become an international TV franchise since, with spin-offs around the world. But, recently the USA version has started to fade and with no solution in sight, and with costs still expanding, the end could be near.
“If they decide to continue with the show budgets will have to be cut. You can forget seeing superstar judges earning millions and lavish productions. Next season will be a toned down version– saving money is the only way they will be able to save the show.”
