An investigation by the Humane Society has revealed that the “faux fur” jackets by Marc Jacobs, sold at Century 21 department stores, actually contain fur from Chinese raccoon dogs.
Chinese raccoon dogs are smaller than most dogs and resemble a fox. They are wild members of the dog family and are common in parts of China and Japan. According to Fur Free Alliance, as many as 1.5 million raccoon dogs are bred on fur farms and killed for their coats.
The fur is said to be much cheaper than producing synthetic fur. Which has resulted in some folks accidentally wearing dogs fur!
Marc Jacobs has not yet responded.
