William Shatner says he’s unable to go to Leonard Nimoy’s funeral on Sunday, and has asked “Star Trek” fans to join him in an online celebration.
Nimoy died on Friday after repeated hospitalizations for lung ailments. On Saturday, Shatner tweeted about his own grief:
I am so humbled by the worldwide outpouring of love that has been displayed; words cannot express my feelings. There are so many people who I need to say thank you to.
I’ve been avoiding social media (actually all media) for the past 24 hours. So I do apologize. I am currently in FL as I agreed to appear at the Red Cross Ball tonight. Leonard’s funeral is tomorrow. I can’t make it back in time.
I feel really awful. Here I am doing charity work and one of my dearest friends is being buried. So maybe tomorrow we come together here and celebrate his life. So let’s spend some time tomorrow celebrating Leonard’s life and remembering the man. Until tomorrow! #LLAP
