Mariel Hemingway claims in her new memoir that Woody Allen tried to seduce he when she was 18 years old.
“Our relationship was platonic, but I started to see that he had a kind of crush on me, though I dismissed it as the kind of thing that seemed to happen any time middle-aged men got around young women,” she wrote.
Hemingway portrayed Allen’s teenage girlfriend in the hit 1979 film, and she was worried that he wanted art to imitate life.
She said she told her parents, Jack and Byra Hemingway, that she was resistant to traveling with him because “I didn’t know what the arrangement was going to be.
“I wasn’t sure if I was even going to have my own room,” she added. “Woody hadn’t said that. He hadn’t even hinted it. I wanted them to put their foot down. They didn’t. They kept lightly encouraging me.
“With the certain knowledge that I was an idiot,” the young actress decided to confront Allen about his plans. “I’m not going to get my own room, am I?” she asked him after waking him up in the middle of night.
This isn’t the first time Hemingway, granddaughter of legendary author Ernest Hemingway, has divulged an awkward encounter with the director.
