Charlize Theron Says It’s Hard Being a ‘Gorgeous’ Actress:’ BOO HOO
“Pretty people get turned away first.”
There are a number of difficulties facing Hollywood’s creme de la creme, but according to Charlize Theron, the most difficult of all is something most people have no control over, their gorgeous faces. In the latest issue of British GQ, Theron, who has been the face of Dior for years, revealed being a “gorgeous” actress doesn’t always work to her advantage.
“Jobs with real gravitas go to people that are physically right for them and that’s the end of the story,” she insisted. “How many roles are out there for the gorgeous, f–king, gown-wearing eight-foot model? When meaty roles come through, I’ve been in the room and pretty people get turned away first.”
While it seems like a rather privileged problem to have, she does make a point. Her most critically acclaimed roles, including her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, which earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress, required her not to rely on her traditionally beautiful features.
I am not sure she realized how this would sound. Hey, we all say stupid stuff. Lets cut her a break on this one. THOUGHTS?
