Katie Holmes left the Catholic Church to study Scientology when she was dating and married to Tom Cruise. And now that she is no longer active in Tom’s religion, she may find returning to her childhood faith might be harder than expected.
“The Catholic Church normally requires individuals who have espoused another religion to retake the Sacraments – ALL of them,” reveals one expert. “Katie Holmes and everyone are required to endure the rigors of the re-doctrinarian of the Catholic religion. After all, Holmes is the one who decided to embrace Scientology.”
In most instances, the Catholic Church would perceive this as a break with the required allegiance to the Church, but some wonder if Katie will be allowed to return without any consequence of her 5-year absence because of her celebrity.
“Like many religions the Catholic Church is a large organization and welcoming to anyone that wants to return or join for the first time,” said one Church official who asked not to be named.
