After Anderson Cooper and Piers Morgan have tried and failed to save CNN’s ratings from falling even lower, the troubled cable station has a new star in its sights that they hope will save the day – Kim Kardashian.
“When Kim’s divorce trial starts in a few weeks the network will go live from the trail 24/7,” one CNN insider tells Naughty But Nice Rob. “Not since the OJ trial, coincidentally a man Kim’s father, Robert Kardashian, defended, will the network put this many resources behind a legal event.”
After failing to reach an agreement today both Kim and Kris Humphries must both appear on April 19th for a pre-trial conference. After which, the trial will commence.
The New York Times’ Brian Stelter reports, “people tune in to CNN, the same way they hurry to a hospital when they think they are having a heart attack. But people tend not to linger in either place — a reality that was reaffirmed for CNN this week when Nielsen ratings showed that April was the channel’s lowest-rated month in 10 years.”
But newly installed CNN chief Jeff Zucker is determined to do whatever is necessary to turn that around, including jumping on the Kardashian bandwagon.
“Everyone will tell you that they hate the Kardashians but they cannot stop watching or talking about them,” reveals one media insider. “Now it is make or break time for Zucker and CNN and he will have no problems covering Kim and her divorce as long as it keeps on delivering viewers. Hey, after it’s all over he might even offer her a job.”
