Josh Brolin says rejection has helped make him a better actor.
“It’s all about fame now and has nothing to do with art. Or it can once in a while, but there’s no work involved and no striving involved and no ladder to climb and no people keeping you down and having perseverance and getting through it.”
“When I started, I heard ‘no’ a million times. I heard, ‘You should probably find a different business’ . . . Meryl Poster, who worked for Miramax, publicly said, ‘The worst auditioners that we ever saw at our studio’ — which was like 12 years at that point — ‘were Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin.’”
Brolin’s advice was to keep going. “Otherwise, there’s McDonald’s, there’s Kentucky Fried Chicken. They have a good health plan,” he cracked.
