James Franco admits that he and Anne Hathaway ‘haven’t talked in a while,’ which is something he might want to get used to. After he stoked the ‘Hatha-Haters’ debate while appearing on Howard Stern’s show, he shouldn’t expect a call from Anne anytime soon.
“James reached out to Anne after doing Howard but so far she has not responded,” a friend of James’ tells Naughty But Nice Rob. “He thought he was just having an honest conversation with Howard and didn’t realize it was going to turn into this huge debate about why everyone hates Anne. He feels bad about it and contacted her to say sorry. He regrets ever discussing her now, although it was Howard that brought up Anne, not James.”
But despite the return of Anne-bashing, Anne wasn’t hiding. She was spotted enjoying a romantic stroll in the Big Apple with her husband of six months, Adam Shulman.
“I have not talked with Anne about it but I’m sure she has no intention of contacting James,” a friend of Anne’s says. “If she did, it would give him another chance to tell everyone that Anne called him after his Stern interview and reveal all the details. Knowing Anne, as far as she is concerned it is over, finished and she will not be talking about it, or James again.”
James, who co-hosted the 2011 Oscars with Anne, revealed that the pair has fallen out before but made up following the huge public backlash over hosting together. But once bitten, twice shy.
“What he should have done is defend her. Yes Howard took the lead but he didn’t disagree,” adds another source close to Anne. “Anne has admitted this sort of stuff does get to her– he should have said something– but instead did nothing and now says he’s sorry. Too late.”
