A “Bachelorette” contestant is attempting to explain what was going through his head when he called co-lead Gabby Windey “rough around the edges.”
“What a night, with so many emotions going on I have to say I have an overwhelming amount of respect for Gabby and Rachel,” Hayden Markowitz wrote on Instagram Monday.
The leisure executive admitted he “may not be the most eloquent with words at times,” adding, “But I aimed my heart in the direction of my intentions.”
He concluded his post, “Extremely glad Rachel saw me for who I am inside and allowed me to continue the journey with her.”
In Monday’s episode, Markowitz, 29, told Windey, 31, that he wanted to pursue co-“Bachelorette” Rachel Recchia instead of her, but Bachelor Nation was quick to call him out for the way he broke the news to her.
“Hayden tells me he feels his morals more aligned with Rachel, and being called ‘rough around the edges,’ like, definitely hurts,” Windey said to the cameras.
“When it comes down to it, I want to be rough around the edges ’cause I know who I am on the inside, and I’m f—king proud of it.”
Markowitz is not the only one who harshly told Windey that he did not see a future with her. Fellow contestant Jacob Rapini told the ICU nurse that if she were the only lead, he would not stay on the show.
In the end, the two “Bachelorettes” decided to change the format of their season by handing out roses individually, but Recchia, 26, felt rejected when three men turned down her rose to pursue Windey.
Windey has nine men left on her journey to find love, and Recchia has eight men left in the running.
