The Bank of England confirmed that bank notes featuring the portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II will remain legal tender — for now.
Further news regarding bank notes will be made after the period of official mourning concludes.
The Telegraph reported that the Queen, who died Thursday after 70 years on the throne, was the first British monarch to appear on bank notes.
Speaking on behalf of the Bank of England, bank governor Andrew Bailey said, “It was with profound sadness that I learned of the death of Her Majesty The Queen.”
“On behalf of everyone at the Bank I would like to pass on my deepest condolences to the Royal Family.”
“For most of us, she is the only head of state we have ever known, and will be remembered as an inspirational figure for our country and the Commonwealth.”ORDER A COPY OF ROB’S NEW BEST SELLING BOOK!
