Jeopardy! announced major news regarding Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik — but not everyone is on the same page about the upcoming podium change.
Earlier this month, TV Insider announced that The Big Bang Theory alum would be returning to the game show starting on February 20. The reason for Mayim’s comeback? She’ll be hosting the High School Reunion Tournament, which pits 27 former Teen Tournament champions against each other for a $100,000 grand prize. What’s more, the winner will also automatically compete in the upcoming 2023 Tournament of Champions.
But that’s not all Jeopardy! producers announced. The outlet further reported that after the 14-day tournament concludes, Ken will take an extended break while Mayim hosts the original iteration of the show.
While the reveal of the Call Me Kat actress taking over for Ken is relatively new, it reignited an ongoing argument amongst fans that dates back to July 2022. As folks may remember, the game series announced that the duo would be splitting hosting duties after a year-long search for a new permanent host following the death of Alex Trebek.
“It’s @KenJennings or nothing, sorry. I did try watching a few episodes in the past with Miss Bialik as host … It’s really a NO for me. #Jeopardy,” one person tweeted. “Oh gawd, she’s coming back. 🙄🙄🙄🙄,” another user added. “Jeopardy I believe you know, if Ken’s not hosting, you lose viewers going forward unless it’s his turn,” a different fan noted.
As far as when Ken will return to Jeopardy!, that’s currently to be determined. But longtime viewers do know there will be a ToC sometime this year, perhaps the fall season to follow the special event’s latest premiere pattern. According to Ken, the 2023 ToC will be an “interesting” one, thanks to the competitive field of players setting impressive streaks, including Cris Pannullo, Ray Lalonde, Troy Meyers and others.
