On the Tuesday (July 14) episode of The Voice Australia, the R&B crooner, 39, opened up about the topic while mentoring contestant Chris Sebastian. In a clip making the round, Chris, 31, reveals that he often felt stuck in the shadow of older brother Guy, an Aussie pop star, who also happens to be a mentor on The Voice. “I know this feeling. Can you imagine what it’s like being in a group with Beyoncé?” Rowland said with a smile. “I would just torture myself in my head. Like, ‘I can’t wear this dress because they’re going to say it’s like Bey.’ Or, ‘I can’t have a song like that because it sounds too much like B. They’re gonna compare anyways.'”
Rowland went on to admit that she would be lying if she said the anxiety didn’t bother her and the sentiment lasted for quite some time. “There was a whole decade, if I am being completely honest, a decade, where it was like the elephant in the room. It was the thing that would constantly be on my shoulder,” she continued.
Nonetheless, Rowland and Knowles are sisters to the end and their legacy as a group still lives on. Earlier this month, the Recording Industry Association of America recently updated certifications for DC3, making the trio the most certified girl group of all-time. Among their recently certified platinum hits include “Lose My Breath,” “Jumpin, Jumpin,” and “Survivor.” As for “Say My Name,” the mega-smash has been certified 3x platinum in the United States.
