Prince Harry truly did not hold back in his memoir Spare, but thus far the royal family has pretty much been business as usual. Meaning: They haven’t said anything in response to Harry’s various claims, and the vibes are basically, “Spare? Never heard of it.”
However! Apparently King Charles is “in talks” to issue some kind of response to his son’s book. The Mirror reports that Charles is preparing to do a “landmark” BBC interview (which will be his first major interview as monarch) and says Palace aides are considering him using the chat to “give his side of the story.”
According to an insider who spoke to the publication, “Plans are already up and running for coronation coverage at the BBC, including the profile on the monarch. It is not the done thing to avoid subjects in interviews, so it makes matters tricky. Even one small comment on Harry and Meghan would make worldwide news. It could also prompt a response from Harry, which would be unpredictable, like so much. Everything is very delicate.”
The source added, “There remains an option for the family to simply produce a coronation speech or content they film and supply. It allows control over what is said and would not address the Sussexes.”
Guess we’ll see what happens! And FYI, broadcaster ITV also asked the Palace for a King Charles interview, but apparently its chances of securing one are “slim” after Prince Harry’s interview with Tom Bradby.
