Matt James Didn’t Have Sex in the Fantasy Suites! Matt James is opening up about his time on The Bachelor in a new interview with WSJ. Magazine (via Us Weekly) and aside from talking about his relationship status with Rachael Kirkconnell, he spoke about what really went on in the BachelorFantasy Suites.
What happens in the Fantasy Suites typically stays in the Fantasy Suites—meaning that cameras 100 percent aren’t rolling. But it’s usually a time for Bachelors/Bachelorettes to chill with their finalists away from producers, and yes, sometimes have sex. However, Matt said he used the opportunity to get to know his final three—Rachael, Bri Springs and Michelle Young—on a deeper level:
“I can’t speak for anybody but myself, but I think the women appreciated it,” he explained. “Because I did learn things about them that I hadn’t gathered—that I don’t think I would have learned if I hadn’t used that time to really dive deeper into something that they might not have been comfortable talking about on camera.”
Matt also implied that some of his deeper on-camera conversations with contestants ended up on the cutting room floor, saying “Ultimately The Bachelor’s about more than myself. It’s about all the women who were there and their journeys. There’s a lot of things that didn’t make air that you’ve just got to hope that [the editors] knew a lot better than I do.”
The beginning of Matt’s season was criticized for focusing too much on drama between contestants instead of relationships, so here’s to hoping Katie Thurston’s upcoming season of The Bachelorette goes a little deeper when it comes to one-on-one connections!
