Events do not get much more public than the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The four-day celebration is a bank holiday (meaning that many Brits will be off work for it) and the senior, working members of the royal family will be on display for us commoners to gaze upon during many of the festivities.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (and their kids, Archie and Lilibet) will not be spending much time in the public eye during the Jubilee, however, since they are not working royals anymore. If you were holding out hope for a behind-the-scenes look at Harry and Meghan’s Jubilee trip as part of their upcoming Netflix docuseries, it’s time to rip the metaphorical bandaid off and give up on that dream, sadly.
First, there’s no indication that Harry and Meghan even want to invite cameras to document the trip, which will be one of their first times returning to the U.K. and interacting with the rest of the royals since they decided to step back from their senior roles in The Firm in early 2020. And second, it doesn’t sound like they would be allowed to even if they did.
According to a report from Page Six, royal sources say Harry and Meghan are actually banned from filming in any palaces or royal residences as part of the “Sandringham agreement” they negotiated as part of their royal exit.
Plus, as Page Six‘s sources were also quick to point out, it wouldn’t be a great look for the Sussexes, since the Jubilee is supposed to be all about the Queen and bringing a camera crew would definitely give a “pulling focus” vibe.
“I highly doubt they would even think about that. It would be such a bad look,” one royal insider explained. “Even if they could sneak a camera in, they wouldn’t be able to use any of the footage. I guess they could do home video on their phones, but I honestly don’t think they would.”
And now all I want to see is Harry and Meghan’s iPhone home videos of Archie and Lilibet playing The Floor Is Lava (preferably with their cousins) in literally any palace they could get away with it in.
