Earlier this morning, just as the Today Show was getting ready to start their morning broadcast, a man attempted to take his own life just outside of the studio. The man was quickly wrestled to the ground by security who were able to subdue the man until medical personnel arrived. Nobody else was injured as the man was believed to have said that he didn’t intend to harm anyone else. The show began its broadcast inside for a change with Matt Lauer delivering a quick news brief about what had just happened.
“There was an incident out on the plaza…A short time ago, a man out there attempted to harm himself with a knife,” Lauer said. “He did manage to cut himself. He was controlled by our security team out there. However, he did harm himself in some way. And so he’s now being attended to by medical personnel. There was a knife involved as we just mentioned — so we’re keeping that area clear for law enforcement out there right now and not getting out there to confuse the situation at all.”
