Miley Cyrus is doing what she can to help us navigating self isolation with “Bright Minded,” her daily afternoon Instagram Live series.
She brought Demi Lovato as her first celebrity guest, where the Disney Channel alums spoke about hobbies and pastimes to partake in while under quarantined. “It’s so important not to get consumed in negative self-talk,” Lovato said of being stuck at home with mirrors. “These are different, very scary times…It’s okay to be gentle with yourself.”
As the two continued for 45-minutes, they went through the title of the series, breaking it down as an acronym. Hitting topics like blessings/curses of social media for B, reliable sources for R, immune boosters knowledge for I, and so on, they also made sure to make the discussion an honest one that reflected on their 15-year-long friendship. At one point in the chat, Lovato referenced their drifting bond in response to Cyrus’ talk about how meme culture took a hit on her self-esteem. “It really affected me in my personal life,” the pop star admitted, to which Lovato said, “We’ve gone through times when we’re closer and distant and that’s fine because that’s what friends do. I just wish I could have been there for you, but you better call me next time.”
“We just saw something in each other. Maybe it was spirituality or maybe it was just our hearts. I don’t know but ummm…,” Lovato said of their instant connection. Cyrus responded, “Or maybe we’re just gay as f*ck,” which caused the pair to laugh.
“These afternoon sessions are all about bringing light to a dark time, staying positive and overcoming stress during this pandemic,” Cyrus previously said of her new series. “They also offer hope and escapism, optimism and a way to stay connected while we all try to social distance. STAY SAFE AND HEALTHY!!!!! xoxo.”
Demi: “we connected at 14 for a reason, maybe we saw something in each other”
Miley: “or maybe we were gay as fuck”
